Scharzhofberger
Trockenbeerenauslese

Riesling Dessert Wine –  a noble sweet taste profile

The Scharzhofberg is the legendary slate layer on the Saar and the Scharzhofberger is one of the most famous wines in Germany, a legend with a worldwide reputation. In 1895, the Wiltinger Dean Christoph Schauffler wrote about the location: “Out of all the wine locations around Trier, the King made the Wiltinger Scharzhofberg, his seat.

Unfortunately, because of its high value, only a few mortals are granted this fragrant blood of the vine to love.”

Our noble sweet dessert wines from this location are not only absolutely inspiring but royally presented too: (quote)... with a spectacularly, fantastic rich and extraordinarily seductive, erotic fruit as well as an downright insane minerality. The Wine Advocate honored this sensational quality in the 2011 vintage with 100 Parker points for the dessert wine.

Below you will find the Expert opinions of the 2011 vintage.

Reviews

100/100

Bottled with more than 400 grams of residual sugar and 6% alcohol, the golden cultured and viscous 2011 Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese (AP #32) is incredibly intense and concentrated but still fine and elegant on the nose with perfect white and yellow peach aromas. On the palate, this is a voluptuous but beautifully elegant and refined composition of perfectly ripe fruits and flowing minerals. The finish is stunningly pure and fresh, thanks to the proud terroir of the Scharzhofberg. Roughly 150 bottles produced.
