White Burgundy and Chardonnay from the Wawerner vineyard ‘Windvogt’ with a dry taste profile.

Grown on Devonian slate weathered soils with proportions of sand, limestone and volcanic quartz porphyry rock. This naturally fermented, dry Windvogt needs a few years to mature.

As this is the only wine Van Volxem produces from Windvogt, it is aged in small new oak barrels, giving it vanilla notes. The wood of these barrels comes from the famous French Tonnellerie Taransaud who like the renowned Austrian cooper Franz Stockinger, made the barrels from the oak wood from family-owned Eifel forests.

Reviews

94/100

Fermented and aged in small barrels and 500-liter tonnage for roughly nine months, the 2016 Windvogt offers a deep, fine and refreshingly mineral but also rich, yeasty and slightly toasty-scented bouquet that indicates a noble and elegant Pinot Blanc. Full-bodied, intense and rich but fine and crystalline on the palate, with an elegant structure and delicate acidity, this is a very promising Pinot Blanc with lingering minerals and a long, juicy finish. Lovely salinity and purity in the aftertaste. Highly promising. Drink Date 2023 – 2036
