In the production of our wines, we follow the tradition of our ancestors, to create natural wines. We follow this legacy of sustainable wine production. As a top VDP estate, we are committed to the environmentally friendly management of our vineyards, the cultivation of predominantly typical grape varieties and the reduction of yields.
The Van Volxem winery had reached a size that made it necessary to move from the center of Wiltingen, in order to relieve the pressure on the quiet village centre. Our new manufactory was built on the site of a former winery with the highest ecological and social sustainability standards.
Thanks to the positioning of the new building, atop the hillside, all works were able to optimize the use of gravity in the processing of grapes. All production processes could be sustainably improved, taking advantage of intelligent resource management and environmentally friendly energy production.
Consequently, we follow the sustainability approach in all areas of production, taking care to protect and respect our natural resources. Heat is generated by a wood chip heater and we have implemented the latest cooling and air conditioning technology, all with the aim of saving energy.
A photovoltaic /solar power system, discreetly located on the main roof, provides self-generated electricity. Our customers are even able to charge their electric cars in our car park lot for free.
Water collected on the large flat-roof areas feeds into a natural pond. Dry stone walls, hedges and slate beds with dry-resistant planting, contribute to the harmony with the surrounding natural landscape.
